Advocaat is a Dutch liqueur that is very thick, rich and creamy with a yellow colour, very similar to the appearance of custard. It contains egg yolks, sugar, and vanilla and usually a brandy base.
Americans may be more familiar with it as it can be compared to a more boozy version of Eggnog or Eggnog with a twist.
Think of it like a brandy custard. In Ireland we like to try Baileys flavour everything, this is the Dutch equivalent. You can drink it (with a spoon), or use it as a cake filling, or ice cream topping, or why not in a doughnut?
We figured since it’s so much like custard and we love custard doughnuts then why not try an Advocaat doughnut? And it works!
