How To Make A Reuben Sandwich

How To Make A Reuben Sandwich

The Reuben is a classic American sandwich. Salty beef and tangy sauerkraut layered in melted cheese and sandwiched together in MMM Family Bakery’s Rye Brown Bread.

We made this Reuben with pastrami which some people say then makes the Reuben a ‘Rachel’. Another alternative is using thousand island dressing but we made the traditional Russian dressing.

Ingredients:

  • Rye Bread
  • Sliced Pastrami
  • Swiss Cheese
  • Dill Pickles to serve
  • Sauerkraut

Russian Dressing –

  • 1/2 cup Mayo
  • 3 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp Horseradish
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tsp hot sauce
  • 1/2 tsp paprika

Method:

  • Mix all the Russian ingredients together in a bowl
  • Butter the outsides of the slices of rye bread
  • On the other side spread the Russian dressing
  • On one half add a slice of cheese then corned beef, sauerkraut and cheese again
  • Add to frying pan or sandwich press over medium heat. Heat until the outside is toasted and the cheese is melted
  • Serve with pickles
