Time: 5 Minutes

Diet: Vegan, Vegetarian

Cuisine: Spanish, Catalan

Level: Super Easy

Catalan tomato bread or Pan y Tomate is a super easy and quick you can whip up last minute. It’s basically the Spaniards version of buttery toast. It’s perfect for breakfast, tapas, a side dish, party food or just a snack.

This is delicious by itself but if you are looking for something more we recommend adding cheese, ham or sausage.

Rustic style bread is best suited for this dish so we went with sourdough. It needs to be solid and dense.

It is basically bread rubbed with fresh garlic, ripe tomato, olive oil and salt.

Ingredients:

  • Sourdough Bread
  • Ripe Tomato
  • Garlic Clove
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • Salt

Method:

  • Toast the bread. Either pop it in the toaster or the grill.
  • Slice unpeeled garlic clove in half. Rub the garlic all over the surface of the bread. Leave the skin on the garlic to avoid getting the strong garlic smell on your hands.
  • Half a tomato. Rub the juicy tomato, cut side down over the surface of the bread. Squeezing the juice and rind out while doing this.
  • Drizzle some good quality extra virgin olive oil on top.
  • Sprinkle salt on top.
