How To: Red Pepper Relish and Gouda French Toast

Check out this savoury french toast recipe that is definitely different from the usual. 

A soft middle oozing with melting cheese and slightly spicy red pepper relish and a crispy cheese crust.


  • 2 eggs 
  • splash of milk
  • mustard powder ½ tsp
  • white sourdough 4 slices or bread of choice
  • gouda 4 slices
  • 2-3 tbsp of grated gouda or cheddar
  • Red Pepper Relish tbsp
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil 
  • 1 tbsp butter 


  • Whisk together the eggs, milk, mustard powder and pour into a flat shallow dish.
  • Make two sandwiches with the bread, cheese and red pepper relish. Dip the sandwiches in the egg mix on both sides to coat.
  • Heat the oil and butter in a large frying pan over a medium-high heat. Add the sandwiches and cook for 2-3 minutes each side until golden. Sprinkle over the grated cheese, then flip the sandwiches over so the cheese becomes crusty, then do the same to the other side.
