We went Canadian this week with this delicious cheese toastie. Slathering streaky bacon in a sweet maple glaze and pairing it with a smokey melted cheese. All of this wrapped up in our Spelt Sourdough Cob.

Ingredients

  • For the Toastie
    • 4 slices of streaky bacon
    • 2 slices of sourdough bread ( we recommend our Spelt Cob)
    • 2 slices of Smoked Cheese
    • Butter to spread
  • Maple Glaze
    • 1 – 2 Tbsp Maple Glaze
    • 1/2 Tbsp Brown Sugar
    • 1 tsp Balsamic vinegar
    • 1/2 tsp Dijon mustard
    • pinch of Cayenne pepper
    • pinch of salt

Method

  • Preheat oven 175C. Combine all glaze ingredients
  • Brush both sides of the streaky bacon and lay out on baking tray. Pop in the oven to bake for around 10 – 15 minutes.
  • Take out reglaze and flip over and reglaze again. Then put back in the oven for a further 10 minutes until sticky.
  • Butter both sides of bread. Add a layer of smoked cheese, then the layer of maple bacon and another layer of cheese.
  • Either use a sandwich press or fry in a pan for about 5 minutes or until the cheese is melted and golden on the outside.
